Dear Families,
Thank you for your support with a great first week. We have all truly enjoyed getting to know our new students and reconnect with our returning students. This week presented great opportunities for everyone to connect with each other and with the community, building the structures for the learning ahead. Our homeroom days gave students a chance to learn the logistics of being a Panther together with activities like our pep rally and outdoor games to know each other better. As we transitioned into regular classes later in the week, we noticed students were beginning to feel more comfortable and confident in their spaces. The first week is tiring for students as they get back into routines. We hope everyone has a restful and fun long weekend. See you on Tuesday, September 8.
Athletics
Our school teams are starting up next week! Cross-Country Running will have an interest meeting on Tuesday at Lunch and Senior Basketball try-outs begin on Wednesday. Junior Basketball try-outs begin on Friday and continue into next week. All students interested in joining a team must return their Annual Authorization for Athletic Try-Outs form to Ms. Broks.
Joining a school team is a great way to connect with others and the school community. Good luck to everyone!
Commercial Messages
Due to Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation, families must subscribe to commercial messages in order to receive any messages with commercial content. This includes our Panther Store for Spirit Wear, Fundraisers, Yearbooks, Fun Lunches and more. Subscriptions must be renewed annually. Please go to https://cbe.ab.ca/subscribe to opt-in and receive these messages.
Student Use of Technology
Students reviewed a document about the use of technology in the school. The Admirable Use Policy is developed as a tool to support conversations with students about protecting school resources, using technology safely and appropriately at school. If you wish to review the policy, a copy of the policy is available on our website
Volunteering
We are so grateful to families who volunteer at our school to support field trips and special events. We couldn't do it without you! To ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must be registered with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities. Please complete volunteer registration early to account for processing time.
The Annual Volunteer Registration Form is valid for the current school year only. All volunteers, including returning volunteers, must complete a new registration form each school year before participating in volunteer activities.
Process: Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the POPA requirements and sign to indicate their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form.
New This Year: Community members who do not have a child registered with CBE must complete their volunteer registration in person at the school where they wish to volunteer. This change allows school staff to verify that volunteers have reviewed and acknowledged their privacy obligations under Alberta's Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).
Option Request Changes
Option forms will be available in the main office on Tuesday. These forms must be completed, signed by a parent, and returned to the office by Friday, September 11 in order to be considered. Please note that spaces in our options are limited and many classes are near capacity. Semester Two options can be viewed in PowerSchool by choosing Matrix view of the schedule.
Parking Reminders
During drop-off and pick-ups, please be mindful of parking and traffic safety. The front of the school is a designated bus zone between the two signs. Please also be mindful of our neighbours' driveways. Please remind your children to look both ways before crossing the road and to avoid crossing the road too between the school busses to improve visibility. Thank you for your support.
Student Absences
If your child is absent, please make sure to notify the office. You can leave a message on the Attendance Line, by calling the main office at 403-777-7890 and choosing the first option. When leaving a message, please spell the last name of your student to ensure that the attendance is entered accurately. Thank you for your help.
