Dear families, 

We are so excited to see all of the students on Monday! The teaching team has prepared activities to help students to get familiar with the school, connect with each other, and get ready for learning through the week. Please see below for a few updates: 

Mandatory Grade 5 and 6 Parent Meeting for Camp Kindle 

There is a mandatory meeting for parents of students in grades five and six who are attending the Camp Kindle trip on Tuesday, September 1 at 6:30 in the library. If you are unable to attend, please contact Mrs. Fischer (jlfischer@cbe.ab.ca) 

Cafeteria Menu 

The menu for our Tuck Shop is posted on our website. Our chef prepares a daily hot meal and a variety of snacks daily. The Tuck Shop is cash only. 

Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids 

We are fortunate to be connected with the Brown Bag program, which provides free healthy lunches for students who need them. If your family would benefit from regular lunch support, please email Ms. Dickson (kldickson@cbe.ab.ca)  

First Week Supports 

Parents, please remind your children of the following expectations for the new school year. Students are not to have drinks other than water in any of their classrooms during class time. This helps to keep classrooms clean and protects equipment from accidental spills.  

There are staff and students at our school with severe allergies to scented products. Please do not allow your child to bring perfumes or colognes to school and encourage them to use scented products sparingly at home. 

If your child is bringing a scooter or bike to school, please make sure they have a lock for it, as there is no longer a space in the office for storage. There is a bike rack at the south entrance to the school. 

Staffing Updates 

Our wonderful admin secretary, Mrs. Weatherhead, has announced her retirement this fall. She has worked at Harold Panabaker since 2009, supporting students, staff, and families. We are happy for her to be enjoying her next adventures, spending time with her family, and working on her quilting projects. Mrs. Weatherhead returned to support us with school start-up, and her last day is Friday, September 4. We wish her well. 

This fall, the CBE has hired hundreds of teachers, education assistants and other school staff to support student learning. These positions have been funded by the Government of Alberta with the intention of addressing classroom complexity and class sizes. 
 
We are pleased to welcome additional new staff to our school for the 2026-27 school year: Ms.Chelsea Haddad, Humanities 8-9 and Mr. Daniel Welsh, Math and Science 7-9 

We are very pleased to welcome these new staff members to our school community! This additional staff will help ensure students benefit from: 

  • Increased teacher attention 
  • Improved classroom learning environments 
  • Greater support for diverse learning needs 

 In addition to the new teachers supported with this funding, we are pleased to welcome Ms. Simone Homeniuk, Ms. Miao Liu, and Ms. Dianna Pitei to our school community.  

School Volunteers 

We are so grateful to families who volunteer at our school to support field trips and special events. We couldn't do it without you! To ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must be registered with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities. Please complete volunteer registration early to account for processing time.  

The Annual Volunteer Registration Form is valid for the current school year only. All volunteers, including returning volunteers, must complete a new registration form each school year before participating in volunteer activities. 

Process: Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the POPA requirements and sign to indicate their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form. 

New This Year: Community members who do not have a child registered with CBE must complete their volunteer registration in person at the school where they wish to volunteer. This change allows school staff to verify that volunteers have reviewed and acknowledged their privacy obligations under Alberta's Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).
