Week in Advance - September 4-8

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Harold Panabaker School. This week has been very exciting and energetic here at the school. Students were welcomed to their homeroom classes and had the opportunity to get to know each other and their teachers though carefully planned team building activities. It has been such a pleasure meeting our new students and reconnecting with our returning ones. Regular classes will begin on Tuesday, September 5th.

Each week we will send out the Week at a Glance email. This will include information about important upcoming events, opportunities for students, and other administrative messages. Please feel free to reach out to us at any time if you have questions. We are truly looking forward to a wonderful school year with you.

Athletics

All students have received a copy of the Annual Authorization Tryout Form. We ask that students return the forms by Tuesday. This form is essential for participation on our sports teams.

Cross Country Running is starting up. Any interested students are invited to a lunch meeting on Wednesday at lunch in room 9. We encourage all of our students to get involved in athletics and extracurricular activities as it is a great way to meet new people and have fun experiences at school.

My Bus Stop App

If your student rides the bus, please consider downloading the MyBusStop app. Parents can download the MyBusStop app on mobile devices and track their bus in real time. The code for our school is CBEITW7M53. More information can be accessed through MyCBE Account.  A link to get started is available here: https://cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Documents/MyBusStop-App-Quick-Start-Guide.pdf

School Council Meeting

Our first school council meeting is on Wednesday, September 20th. The school council will be hosting a meet and greet at 6:30pm and the meeting will begin formally at 7:00pm. They will be having a draw for some Harold Panabaker hoodies. Joining school council is a wonderful way to become involved with the school. All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend.

Cell Phone Policy

In order to ensure a focused learning environment, cell phones are to be used before school, during lunch and after school. Cell phones must be kept off and in backpacks/lockers if students choose to bring them to school. Bluetooth headphones must also be kept in backpacks and lockers, unless student has been given clear permission from their supervising teacher.

Consequences for using cell phone or bluetooth headphones during class time without permission:

  • First time, device(s) will be kept in the office until the end of the day.
  • Second time, a conversation will be held between home and school. Parents will have to come to school to pick up the device(s).
  • Third time, the devices(s) is/are banned from use on school property for a month.

If you need to contact your student during the school day, please call the office and we will connect you with them.

Parking Reminders

Parents, we need your assistance in keeping all our children safe.  Please choose safety over convenience.  It is not safe to drop children off in the staff parking lot or in the bus zone (directly in front of the school).  Please drop off and pick up your child(ren) on the east side of Sackville Drive or along the school field. Having a plan identifying an area for the student(s) to be picked up further away from the building will help keep students safe.

Please be courteous of the residents of Sackville Drive. Ensure that you are not blocking driveways while you are waiting to pick up your children. Please note that u-turns are illegal in school zones. We are all a part of the community and hope to have a positive relationship with our neighbours.
