Grade Nine English PAT

Grade nine students will write their first Provincial Achievement Test on Monday, May 13. Students have been diligently preparing and we wish them all the best. Try to get a good night’s sleep, eat breakfast, and believe in yourself! Please note that there are classes scheduled for grade nine students in the afternoon.

Weather Reminders

As the days are getting warmer, please make sure your children are prepared for hot weather with access to waterbottles, hats, and sunscreen. This time of year, things can change quickly, so they should also bring a jacket with them. PE is often outside for track and field and other activities.

Math 15 Summer School

Grade 9 students looking to register for the online Math 15 summer school course should contact Ms. Roach (meroach@cbe.ab.ca) prior to May 16th to express their interest.

The online Math 15 course does not replace the designated high school Math 15 prep class as it is not as in-depth, however, it can help to boost the confidence of students as they enter into their recommended grade 10 Math class – Math 10-3, Math 15 Prep/Math 10C or Math 10C.

Useful information about the course:

  • Math 15 is a useful course to fill gaps in preparation for grade 10 math, it does not teach grade 10 math concepts
  • Math 15 is a three credit course that will show up on the student’s high school transcript
  • This course is asynchronous:
    • This means there are no mandatory online meetings/classes with the teacher
    • Teachers will offer an optional one hour per day synchronous meeting
    • Communication with the teacher, through the D2L shell is critical to a student’s success
    • Students can accelerate their learning and complete the course early
  •  D2L may not work outside of Canada
  •  Students will have access to Math 15 beginning June 28
Students are also required to complete ‘Essentials for Learning’ prior to beginning Math 15

Students can also see Ms. Roach to register for this summer school class. Registration starts on May 17 and it will close on May 24.
